Both theatre majors and students from other majors have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of theatre arts, including acting, directing, design, stagecraft and more.

Participating in SBU theatre productions is a great opportunity for hands-on, interactive learning as you use your God-given gifts, talents and creativity.

High School Playwriting competition

The SBU Theatre Ten Minute Play Competition provides students with an opportunity to bring their original stories and characters to life. The competition is open to all 9th through 12th grade students in the state of Missouri who are interested in promoting Christian drama. SBU Theatre invites students to experiment with writing styles and submit plays on a variety of subjects including, but not limited to, cultural issues, social change, and theological topics. Submitted plays must be no longer than 10 minutes (approx. 10 pages). The deadline for entry is December 15, 2018. The winners will be announced via email on February 15, 2019 and a staged reading of the first prize play will take place in March.

Prizes:
1st Place: $150 and a staged reading of the play at SBU
2nd Place: $100
3rd Place: $50

Entries should be submitted in PDF format with a cover page featuring the playwright's name, grade level, and high school. Email entries to sbunewplays@SBUniv.edu
